Innovations in the Aviation Industry in the Next 20 Years
With the developing technology, various developments are foreseen in the aviation sector. Innovations that will affect many environmental, economic and social concepts will meet the demands of passengers while also benefiting the environment and their own bodies.
1. Supersonic Flights
While traveling from one place to another by any means of transportation was considered a luxury in the past, today, how much time these travels will save is also a matter of passenger desire. Within the scope of the intensity of business life and other life processes, passengers pay significant attention to the concept of speed. In line with all these, airplanes, which will be integrated with the developing technology in the next 20 years, can significantly improve the concept of speed and time. Boom Supersonic, which works in this field, introduced the Overture, the aircraft that exceeds the speed of sound. Overture, which uses one hundred percent recycled fuel, will be the “world’s first economically and environmentally sustainable supersonic aircraft”. Overture, which can travel from New York to London in 3.5 hours, is expected to take to the skies in 2026.
2. Electric Motor
Israel Eviation, an Israeli company, is in the process of realizing a fully electric airplane called Alice. With 3 engines, Alice is planned to stay in the air for 2 hours on a full charge. In addition, Rolls Royce is also working on the design of electric engines that can be integrated with these aircraft types. For the next 20 years, airplanes with small passenger capacities but fully electric and environmentally friendly electric motors may constitute the airborne arm of electric motor systems.
3. Inflight Comfort
There are many differences in passenger classifications on board. Services such as service, Wi-Fi, entertainment, etc. are shaped according to the class of passengers on board. However, in the next 20 years, it is predicted that there will not be much difference between economy and business class passengers. The reason for this is the possibility of adding all the facilities that can be adapted to the aircraft to all classes without discrimination. Human expectations and needs, which will progress in direct proportion to the developing technology, will be the main focus of the functioning of this system. All services to be provided in the aircraft will become a necessity rather than a privilege.
4. Flying Cars
Although automobiles are not currently a concern for air traffic, this may change in the coming years. In today’s world, where traffic density on land has increased dramatically, people are looking for new ways to substitute the land and provide the possibilities of automobiles. In this direction, flying cars, which are being tested in many countries such as China and Japan, may have functions that will seriously affect the density of air traffic in the coming years.
5. Space Flights
Today, when space travel is becoming more frequent, the cost rates of these travels are also at very high levels. Spacecraft, which may be used as frequently as airplanes in the next 20 years, may come to the forefront in both logistics and leisure travel. It is also a matter of curiosity whether airplanes will also become suitable for space travel, depending on how fast technology will develop. According to some experts, it is a controversial news that the outer structure of the aircraft can be made resistant to the space structure by reinforcing it with materials that will emerge in the coming years.
In the 2020s, the country with the largest market share in aviation travel is currently the USA. However, looking at China’s rapidly growing population, it is an undeniable fact that China will constitute the largest part of the airline market share in the 2040s. China, which is the center of attention for companies that make aviation investments, is proof that companies that do not invest in China will experience difficulties in the coming years. In line with all these, we can see that the aviation sector moves in tandem with the innovation of technology. The aviation sector, which is constantly improving itself, seems to be the leader of travel and logistics in the next 20 years with the help of technology.
